Off the back of our past successful annual familiarisation tours, the SYGGBR are once again inviting industry leaders to experience all that Cairns and the region has to offer international super yachts, their owners and their guests.

SYGGBR are pleased to announce the invited famil delegates for 2017:

  • Nicholas Fry, Camper & Nicholson, Monaco – Winner of the Perfect Home Port Competition
  • Abdulla Waheed, Maldives Yacht Support, Maldives
  • Andy Shorten,The Lighthouse Consultancy, Bali, Indonesia

These delegates are very well respected in the superyacht community and will be enjoying all that Cairns, the perfect home port, has to offer the global superyacht fleet.  Our aim is to showcase our unique destination and its appeal to this VIP clientele who in turn can encourage vessels, their owners and guests to cruise to our region to experience these outstanding services and inspiring encounters.

The guests will take part in a corporate breakfast forum where all their questions about the region will be answered.  They will also tour our infrastructure, experience some fabulous snorkelling on the Great Barrier Reef from a luxurious super yacht, meet local dignitaries, and partake in exclusive, tailor-made inland tours to familiarise themselves with a taste of the very unique luxury experiences we have to offer in Cairns.

SYGGBR thanks its supporters from the Cairns Regional Council, Ports North, Trinity Petroleum,  Northrop & Johnson, Motor Yacht Dreamtime, Motor Yacht Spirit, Nautilus Aviation, The Salt House, The Shangri-La, Mt Uncle Distillery, FP Marine Risks, Project Identity, Elliott Limousines, Helitours and Roux Blond in helping make this famil the ultimate showcase for our region.“For some, it will be their first time to Australia, and we can assure them they will be pleasantly surprised by all that Cairns has to offer,” SYGGBR chairman Carrie Carter said.

“Where else in the world can you dock your 140M Super Yacht, drive 10 minutes to an international airport, two minutes to a helipad, five minutes to a shipyard and International Marine College, and enjoy a gigantic (4,800 square metre), free lagoon pool in your backyard? Where else can they find  countless restaurants, bars, and exercise options, and still be a step away from two of the world’s natural wonders, the pristine and amazing Great Barrier Reef and the Wet Tropics Rainforest?” she continued.

“We have everything they  need: perfect location, perfect weather, perfectly safe…. In fact, for superyachts that want to discover the rest of the world, Cairns is the Perfect Home Port!”

A recent  AEC Group study found the Australian superyacht industry contributed a total of $1.97 billion to gross domestic product (GDP) in the 2016 financial year. The study was commissioned by AIMEX and supported by the Queensland Government to gain a clear understanding of the superyacht industry’s current and potential economic contribution.

An Australian first, the economic impact study found the superyacht industry to be a high value niche sector, held back by restrictive policy – if relaxed, the industry could contribute an additional estimated $1.12 billion to GDP by 2021, for a total contribution of $3.34 billion.
