Demystifying Free Trade Agreements: What’s In It For Me?

AIMEX, the peak body for the Australian Superyacht Industry, marine export industry and commercial marine industry has recently been awarded an Austrade Free Trade Agreement Training Program Grant. The funding will be used to deliver training about Free Trade Agreements (FTA’s) to the marine industry across Australia.

Given the small number of organisations awarded these grants, AIMEX is excited that their project was seen as significant.  It is designed to give businesses an understanding of the benefits of the new Free Trade Agreements with China and Korea. A total of 14 member-based business organisations were awarded grants out of a possible 47.

The FTA’s offer benefits to the marine industry with possible tariff reductions on imported componentry and also on the export of products and services to these countries. This will give Australian companies a competitive advantage including cost of production and price reductions.

AIMEX will be delivering training in nine destinations across Australia. The first of these will be launched in Melbourne at Docklands.  International Law firm Hunt and Hunt are partnering with AIMEX to deliver solid information about what a Free Trade Agreement can deliver to a marine-related business in Australia.  Hunt and Hunt have a track record in developing and delivering Free Trade Agreement information and dealing with international legal matters. Presentations will be held with a launch in Melbourne, followed by presentations in Cairns, Darwin, Perth, Brisbane, Gold Coast, Adelaide, Hobart and Sydney.

Superyacht Australia CEO MaryAnne Edwards said “This is tailored training to increase the competitiveness of Australian marine companies.  They have great opportunities in the Chinese and Korean markets, and the benefits of the FTA’s need to be accessed by as many companies as possible who are trading with these markets to increase the bottom line and their competitiveness.”
